Texas Chapter Member ProjectsTerry WallaceTerry Wallace is working on two projects at his hangar at Northwest Regional. Rebuilding and restoring a 1935 Davis D1W in foreground. Terry is shown working on the final layout for the Davis Instrument Panel. Restoring a 1935 Fairchild C8E in background. The wings for the Fairchild are nearing completion. From Dick Ramsey, 5/16/2010: Was able to visit Terry's hangar today and see the progress he's making on the Davis he's putting together. The Fuselage is now ready to cover and the Panels have been installed. Only one of them will have instrumentation. Chapter member Clare Wright contributed to getting a correct color match with other parts of the plane. Update: On October 20 2010 I checked on Terry’s progress with the Davis he is assembling. The fuselage was in Silver as were all the other components. On the 27th everything but the wings were painted in a white base coat and he was about to rejuvenate and recoat silver on the wings which had been done several years ago. Final color is awaiting the owners decision.
Update on Apr 16, 2011:
Update to Davis D1W On March 24 2012, was able to witness the second Taxi Test of the 1935 Davis that Terry Wallace has been restoring at Northwest Regional. This taxi test confirmed the need for break relining. Painting of wheel pants and one or two minor adjustments remain to be done before flight testing can be done. Restoring such a plane requires a great deal of time and technical expertise which will be realized before long. On 4-23-2012 Terry was able to complete a successful First Flight on the 1935 Davis he’s been working on. Afterwards he posed in the same manner that his Father did upon completion of his other Davis, a 1931 Davis D1W seen in the background. Update to Davis D1W August 12, 2012 Here are pictures of the completed restoration of the 1935 Davis D1W that Terry Wallace has been working on for several years. Only final weight and Balance check and some flight hours this week remain and then he plans to fly it to Blakesburg the end of August 2012. Dick Ramsey
