Grand Champion 2023

Gone West: Phil Edgington

Phil Edgington went West on February 8, 2008 doing what he loved, flying. After his Wife Georgina, Phil loved flying and his ranch near Bolivar, Texas. Phil was an American Airlines Captain and member of many aviation organizations, one of which was the Texas Chapter of the Antique Airplane Association that he and Georgina were both members of. Phil retired from the U.S. Army as a Major to fly for American. He was extremely patriotic and had served our country well. In the Service he had flown Spy Planes and his other love, Helicopters.

One of his passions was buying, restoring and reselling older airplanes. His work on them was always of the first order. He was well versed in aviation and a skilled pilot with many hours in both large and small airplanes and helicopters. He had just purchased a 1948 Cessna 140 in Wisconsin and was flying it home when he went down near Grand Meadow, Minn. It may not have been the time he would choose, but according to Georgina and his friends, it was the way he would have wanted to go.

Phil and Georgina had been married for 12 years and were dedicated members of our Chapter. He will be missed, but we wish him fair weather and tail winds on his journey as he goes to join fellow fliers and await the rest of us.
