Gone West: Jack R. Selby

Jack R. Selby, 66 years of age, one of our Texas AAA members, died Wednesday afternoon, July 25, 2012, at his home in Joshua, TX. Jack was still working for Southwest Airlines at Love Field, Dallas, TX at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Pat, a son, Michael, and daughter, Denise and 5 brothers and 1 sister.

He was a lifelong aircraft enthusiast, earning his A & P license shortly after graduating from high school. He was employed by Bell Helicopter and the Dept. of the Army Civil Service before going to work for Braniff Airlines in 1980. A year later, he went to work as an A & P mechanic for Southwest Airlines. He become a mechanic supervisor and was employed there for 31 years. He always said of Southwest Airlines that “he worked for the best.”

Jack and his son, Michael, always parked airplanes at our fly-ins. Michael could be seen with a big camera getting pictures of all the aircraft. He was working on a Piper Colt at Cleburne and had parts for Cessna-150's. He was also a firearms dealer and a RVer (motor home).

Jack was one of the really good guys and will be missed by all who knew him. I had the honor of working with Jack at Southwest Airlines.
