Gone West: Weldon Dean “Deanie” Montgomery


Deanie Montgomery departed on his last flight on Friday, June 29, 2012.

Born April 30, 1932, he attended school in Corsicana graduating in 1949. Deanie then went on to attend Navarro Junior College and graduated from North Texas State College with a BS Degree.

While attending school at Navarro he obtained his private pilot license and later commercial, multi-engine and instrument ratings. He worked for Central Airlines in Fort Worth and Kansas City; during this time he met and married Lee Hackney. Later he resigned and returned to operate the family business in Corsicana.

Speed was a major factor in his life and he pursued interests including Hydroplane and Runabout racing, Go-Cart racing, as well as Enduro and Cross Country Motorcycles which he did with his three Sons and his Grandson. He also obtained and raced a “funny car” on the drag strips.

Deanie obtained is A&P-IA Mechanics License and restored several antique airplanes. He and the family attended air shows all over the country and was a lifetime member of the Antique Airplane Association and EAA, as well as long time member of the Texas Chapter AAA.

Deanie is survived by his wife Lee of 46 years, two sons; Chad and Joe, three Grandsons and one Granddaughter and other friends and relatives. Services were held at the Corley Funeral Home in Corsicana on July 7, 2012.
